Abstract
This paper describes a method for reducing the influence of
cascades on the measurement
of electron excitation cross sections using the optical method
and a fast beam atomic target. By using
a fast beam of target atoms one can reduce the influence of
cascades on a measurement, and estimate
the cascade contribution to the excitation signal.
